Some practice specific types of kayaking and canoeing, whilst others have a wide range of boats, and members who are interested in different types of canoeing.
The clubs are generally run by volunteers who have a love of the sport. All of the clubs welcome new members, but training for beginners may be limited to specific dates or times of the year. Kayak and canoe hire in North London is available from several commercial outlets. Most clubs and centres will have their own stock of boats, but these will be reserved for the use of their members and will not be available for public hire, unless you attend an event at the club or centre.
Canoe and Kayak the Thames is run by the friendly staff from London’s longest established canoe and kayak shop, Whitewater The Canoe Centre, and can be found at Shepperton Marina, close to the river Thames in Shepperton. They provide kayaks, sit on tops and canoes for hire.Thames Canoes is based further west, on the outskirts of greater London, and provides open canoes for hire, for single or multiday use on the River Thames. To the north of London, Lee Valley Canoe Cycle is based in Broxbourne and provides kayaks and open canoes for hire, as well as providing guided canoe trips on the River Lee.
Regents is an active and friendly adult club based in Islington, London. The club runs beginner’s courses and organises regular trips to white water rivers as well as the occasional trip to gentler flat water locations. We meet on Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and on Thursday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm on the City Road Basin of the Regents canal at Graham Street, London N1.
